Soil in this vineyard is a Mesa clay loam and calcareous stony to cobbly clay in texture, similar to the soils historically associated with the best European Cabernet plantings.

The Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from this vineyard continue to show excellent promise. At the 2003 Indiana International the 2000 Redstone reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded a gold medal. At the 2001 San Francisco International the 1998 Redstone reserve Cabernet Sauvignon won a gold medal.

Plum Creek’s Cabernet Franc likewise has been heralded in prestigious wine competitions, including a double gold medal at the 2000 International Eastern Wine Competition (1998 Cabernet Franc), a double gold medal at the 2000 Tasters Guild International (1997 Cabernet Franc) and a gold medal at the 2003 Colorado State Fair Competition (2001 Cabernet Franc).

As yet, Cabernet Franc is not as well known as its cousins Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but we think conditions in this special part of Colorado are perfect for its growth. It may well become the wine for which Colorado becomes famous.
